Broken sidewalk allegedly causes personal injury

In the state of Alabama, safety codes and regulations have been established to protect those who lawfully visit local and state-owned property. Just like any public establishment, property owned by local governments must be properly maintained and potential hazards must be removed. However, faulty construction or failure to maintain property can cause personal injury to visitors. Those who are injured due to negligence may be able to pursue legal action.

A man in another state claims he was injured due to a sidewalk in disrepair and he has filed a lawsuit against the city. According to the lawsuit, the man was walking along the sidewalk and encountered broken concrete and loose gravel. Allegedly, the broken and uneven walkway caused him to fall and suffer injuries.

The man said he fell backwards and hit his head on the ground. He alleges his injuries caused him to endure severe pain, disability and mental anguish. He accuses the city of negligence over claims that they failed to inspect and maintain the sidewalk, allowed the hazardous condition to exist and did not provide warning.

Unfortunately, thousands of people across the country are injured each year in scenarios just like this. Those in Alabama who suffer personal injury due to hazardous conditions while lawfully visiting public property may benefit by consulting an attorney and filing a claim. A successful lawsuit could result in compensation to help victims who have lost wages and incurred medical expenses as a result of injuries. However, it is important to act quickly when a government entity is the party believed responsible for an accident, as the time period for filing a claim could be significantly shortened.
